Yes, and this time it had nothing to do with spirituality, this was a traditional ceremony beaming from a rich heritage and deep cultural meaning!
That is how I spent the better part of my Saturday this weekend. My brother Kenneth has finally decided to walk the talk and take get married.
Apparently before one starts the introduction ceremony, there is need to go and get "born" at the girls home. In essence, to open the way to being accepted as a son in the home.
So a team of 5 of us set out to start the process. All clad in traditional wear. Its fun to listen in on these conversations, spiced with proverbs and deep meanings. One end was trying to play tough and the other pleading for a "go ahead" without trying to sound so beggy (does this word exist?)
Good thing I did not have to say anything. The spokesman did all the talking. He magnified which family the groom was from and stating the purpose of the visit with all the humility one could master.
"But you are telling us about a Kenneth, is he here amongst you?"
HO! these are times when the groom should not show his face and here we were being asked of his where abouts! Words and more explainations and we got away with explaining that we were there on his behalf and elaborating that he resembled his the uncle Solomon and brother Milton!
"Yes, we need to affirm that Kenneth is not a one eyed monster, wanting to take our dear daughter. We need to know he can look after her"
At the end of the day, the date for the actual Introduction ceremony was set for 23 Feb and the Wedding April 5!
Man, its tough getting married!
PS: Sorry no pix for now. Later YES;-)
